How to beautifully hang a poster
Is it finally time to frame that vintage Michael Jordan poster that you’ve had since college? What about the print from the New Orleans Jazz Fest that blew your mind? We’re here to help you choose the best frames for your oversized memorabilia. Follow this guide to frame with confidence, and browse all frames for ideas and inspiration.
What size frame do I need?
There are multitudes of poster frames out there. If you’d rather not search high and low for one with exactly the right dimensions, custom framing is a smart option. With Framebridge, you simply submit your art and select your frame style. From there, we custom build your frame to exactly fit your poster and then we ship it to you, ready to hang!
Our designers build your poster frame based on the size of your art (the frame opening), which means the size of your finished frame will vary depending on the style you choose. Without a mat, your finished frame will usually be one to two inches wider and longer than your poster itself. If you choose to mat it, your finished frame will be 6 to 8 inches larger than the poster.
How do you frame my poster?
At Framebridge, we make it truly easy to frame your favorite posters. Here’s how: First, measure your poster–an approximate size will do. Our experts will meticulously measure it once it arrives in our studio. Next, while it’s laid out flat, take a quick photo of your poster to preview how it will look framed. Upload the image to Framebridge.com, and then choose your frame style. (To get started, select "Physical Photo or Art" here.)
We'll send you pre-paid packaging (a tube or a flat mailer). Simple, pack your poster up into our packaging and ship it back to us–for free. We'll deliver your poster right to your door, framed and ready to hang on your wall.

What are the most common poster sizes for framing?
Standard Posters
At Framebridge, we frame any poster, from 5” x 7” up to 32” x 40”. For anything larger, visit a store near you. The two most common poster sizes are 16” x 24” and 18” x 24” (we also see a lot of 13” x 18” and 16” x 20”).
Large Posters
If your poster’s longest side is over 32”, it’s categorized as large. For posters this big, our designers recommend framing without a mat. The most common poster size we see in this category is 27” x 40”.
Extra-Large Posters
If your poster’s longest side is over 40”, we can take care of it at one of our retail locations, where we’re now framing pieces up to 40" x 60".
Small Posters
Posters don’t need to be big to make a statement. We can frame any small posters all the way down to 5” x 7”. For small poster frames, we recommend using a mat or even float mounting to make a bigger statement.
If your poster is not one of the specific sizes mentioned above, we can still frame it if it is between 5” x 7” and 32” x 40” (and up to 40" x 60" in retail stores). Our process makes it easy to figure out which frame size you need for your poster, pick your frame style, and ship it securely to our studio–for free.
